A trendy and effective campaign to promote voting rights featuring flash mob events by college students took the citizens by surprise here on Sunday.
Quite an unusual thing for this small town, the students of Ambedkar University, Vaishnavi College of Engineering, Aditya Institute of Technology and Management, GMRIT-Rajam and others took to the streets and resorted to dance at busy junctions that grabbed the attention of the passers-by.
With the initiative by Srikakulam Collector and Ambedkar University Vice-Chancellor H. Lajipathi Rai, the students enthralled the audience across the town including RTC complex with their performances, simultaneously conveying the message of exercising franchise in polls.
“We are getting very good response to our promotional activities, especially flash mobs. Poll percentage has already increased in local body and municipal elections. We hope, it would go up further in general elections,” Collector Saurabh Gaur said.
Vaishnavi College of Engineering Principal Vasanta Rajendra Prasad said the new generation was fed up with the corruption and illogical promises being made by the politicians. Saumya and Sunanda, who took part in the flash mob expressed happiness for the support from the public at RTC complex. “We are excited to participate in the elections, while making others to come to the polling booths,” they added.
