A greater flamingo and two chicks in miniature form were made in gold by a city-based goldsmith, Sarath, seeking international recognition for the ongoing Flamingo Festival being held at Sullurupeta in Nellore district.

Sarath took six hours to make the miniatures of the “golden birds”. He said that the height of the big miniature was 4 inches while the smaller ones were of one inch in size. Stating that the Nellore district has rich natural resources, Mr. Sarath said he would use his art to support the campaign for getting worldwide recognition for the Pulicat Lake and Nelapattu Bird Sanctuaries, which are a home for the winged visitors during winter.
