As part of the tourism promotion initiatives, the government is taking steps for greater focus on important destinations and landmark events like the Flamingo festival being held at the Pulicat lake surroundings.
Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana instructed the officials to make arrangements for the tourists coming for the Flamingo festival slated from January 9 to 11. The Minister visited the Nelapattu bird sanctuary where he enquired about the facilities created at the bird viewpoints. He also went to the sanctuary where pedestrian paths have been developed.
This year, special boating facilities are being created at the Pulicat lake for the convenience of visitors. Funds to the tune of Rs. 1.5 lakh are being spent to upgrade boating facilities there. The Forest Department’s Sullurupeta wildlife division made special arrangements at the Atakanithippa for the visitors to know the activities of the sanctuaries. The bush clearance at the visitors’ locations is being taken up at the boating points and other venues.
The Forest Department is making arrangements for exhibitions on migratory birds and the aquatic life at Nelapattu and at the main festival venue during the three days. Information leaflets on the birds are also made available for the visitors.
