Five persons sleeping on the pavement were crushed to death when a speeding bus lost control, trying to avoid collision with a two-wheeler, tipped over and fell on them at Benz Circle here in the early hours of Tuesday. Another person is said to be in a serious condition.

A four-year-old boy, a young woman passenger and the driver who suffered serious injuries were shifted to a private hospital for treatment. Twelve other passengers who suffered minor injuries have been admitted to the government hospital.

The air-suspension bus that belongs to SVR Travels going from L.B.Nagar in Hyderabad to Srikakulam touching Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam reached here around midnight. As it reached Benz Circle it almost collided with a motor-bike coming from NTR Circle. The bus driver swerved to the left to avoid the two-wheeler and the bus tipped to the left and fell on the people sleeping on the footpath.

Circle Inspector N.Satyanandam, talking to the media, said that only two of the five killed could be identified. The identified are Tungam Nagaraju, 24, from Mattampalli in Nalgonda district and Limgampalli Srinivasa Rao.

The two-wheeler collided with the rear end of the bus and the travellers escaped with minor injuries.
