Five more sand reaches in Krishna district

District Collector Babu A. on Friday announced the opening of another five sand reaches in Krishna district with the capacity to yield 2,37,500 cubic metres.

These five reaches are in addition to the 13 sand reaches with the capacity to yield 13 lakh cubic metres of sand that have already been opened to the public under the free sand policy.

Giving a break- up, Mr. Babu said that 37,500 cubic metres was available at the Rayuru Reach, 50,000 cubic metres of sand each was available in Chedapudi one and two reaches in Challapalli mandal and another 50,000 cubic metres of sand each was available at two reaches at Papanasanam in Ghantasala mandal taking the total to 2.38 lakh cubic metres. The Collector said that sand from Rayuru reach would be utilised for works in progress on the Polavaram Right Bank Canal. Cases would be booked under the PD Act if anyone was found demanding money for sand, the Collector warned.
