Five persons were killed and 25 bus passengers sustained severe injuries when an APSRTC bus (AP04 TU 9189) collided with a lorry near Sri Krishna temple in Madhavarampodu of Railway Kodur mandal in Kadapa district in the early hours of Saturday. Bus conductor K. Prabhakar, 42, and another passenger Muddalur Sudhir died on the spot. Driver of the bus Narayana got trapped in his seat, the police said. Subbarayudu, 75, of Kadapa and two others succumbed to injuries while being shifted to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati.

As the lorry cabin was badly mangled, the driver and cleaner were trapped in it.

Railway Kodur CI Rasool Saheb and SIs — Sivaprasad and Ramesh — managed to free the bus driver and shift the injured to hospital.

The bus belonging to Rajampet Depot was going from Tirupati to Kadapa. The Railway Kodur police registered a case and are investigating.
