Five die as car rams bus

Five people were killed when a speeding car rammed a bus near Patnam village of the Mudigubba mandal on Anantapur – Kadiri – Tirupati road on Thursday.

The accident occurred when the car, going to Rayachoti in the Kadapa district from Ballari in Karnataka, swerved to the right unable to negotiate a curve hitting the APSRTC bus coming in the opposite direction.

While a 14-year-old girl was killed on the spot, four other adults, including a senior citizen, were said to be alive for a brief time post the accident, according eyewitness accounts from the bus passengers.

However, all four died even as they were being rescued by the passengers of the bus.

The bodies have been shifted to Kadiri government general hospital. The victims have been identified as Nishita (14), Ramayya Naidu (40), the owner of the car and the driver of the car, Anjaneyulu (60) and his wife Swarupa (50) besides Sunita (35).

The police told The Hindu that all the deceased belonged to a single family and their bodies have since been claimed by their relatives.
