In a novel protest, the Adilabad District Matsakarula Sangham activists on Monday sold fish inside the municipal office here, demanding that the authorities allocate a suitable place in the town for setting up a fish market for the convenience of people and the fish traders as well.

Much to the embarrassment of the staffers of the municipal office, as many as 200 fishermen from across the district, who gathered in the district headquarters, barged into the office of the civic body.

Like a regular fish market, they started selling fish and crab near the Municipal Commissioner’s chamber, leading to a commotion.

With the absence of a regular fish market in the town, the fishermen are now selling the day's catch at different street corners, alleged the protesters.

Speaking on the occasion, District Matsakarula Sangham president Mekala Anand accused the municipal authorities of turning a cold shoulder in the matter even after the State government had released Rs.10 lakh for setting up a fish market in town some months ago.
