Fire ravages paper and ginning mills

Rs.8 crore property damaged in paper mill at Rajahmundry, while loss in ginning mill at Adilabad put at Rs 25 lakh

A major fire broke out in Ramdas Paper Mill Private Limited, located between Kadiyam-Jegurupadu villages near here on Saturday, destroying property worth Rs.8 crore which included raw material and machinery. The raging fire spread to four houses adjacent to the industry damaging the completely.

It took more than five hours for ten fire engines to douse the flames. The heat generated from the burning material spread up to half kilometre in the village. Property worth over Rs. 8 crore destroyed in two fire accidents

According to Ajay Kumar, District Fire Officer, the incident took place around 12 noon, when fire broke out in raw material godown of the factory.

The factory is having three units and fire that emanated from the raw material godown damaged machinery in one of these three units. “We left our houses as huge flames started engulfing not only the factory, but also our houses which are adjacent to compound wall of the paper mill ,” said Lakshmi, one of the residents, whose house was reduced to ashes in the accident.

The Fire Officer and the management representatives put preliminary loss at Rs.8 crore and RDO M. Venugopala Reddy and others rushed to the spot for assistance to the victims, who lost their houses.

Fire in Adilabad

Adilabad Staff Reporter adds: An accidental fire at a private ginning mill in the Rampur industrial area in Adilabad burnt cotton heaps lying in the open yard and a lorry parked on the premises. Though the loss is yet to be assessed, it could be over Rs. 25 lakh.

According to eye witnesses, the fire first started in a heap and spread to other heaps, apparently owing to the winds blowing during the day. The lorry which was parked in the yard after it was unloaded also caught fire.

The driver of the lorry tried to steer away the vehicle but the intensity of the fire proved a deterrent.

This is the second cotton fire within a week in Adilabad town.

Cell tower catches fire

Vizianagaram Correspondent: A cell tower of Tata Docomo at Om Mandiram on Ring Road here caught fire reportedly due to short circuit at the top end of it on Saturday.

Equipment damaged

The equipment at the cell tower was destroyed in the incident. The Fire fighting personnel put out the flames. The loss was tentatively put at Rs. 3lakhs.
