The raging fire in a godown that devoured cotton worth Rs. 7.50 crore at Challareddypalem near Vetapalem in Prakasam district was brought under control on Monday. Fire service personnel led by Regional Fire Officer G.V. Narayana Rao tamed the flames in one of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) godowns after fighting it for over 20 hours. The CCI godowns in-charge officer in Vetapalem lodged a complaint with the Chirala police who have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham (APRS) demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the cause of the fire, the second in the same godown in two months.
