A fire in the lone 500 Megawatt (7th) unit of Dr. Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) at Ibrahimpatnam brought generation to a halt on Sunday.

According to NTTPS Chief Engineer M. Padma Sujatha, fire broke out of a transformer and it caused suspension of generation.

The fire was put out with foam and repairs were undertaken immediately.

Ms. Sujatha said it would take two days to complete the repairs and resume generation. None was injured in the incident.

The incident came 10 days after a winding failure in one of the six 210 MW units that affected generation.

Meanwhile, Ms. Sujatha denied reports that the NTTPS was facing coal shortage. She said the plant had nearly 47,500 tonnes of coal as buffer and more stocks were arriving.
