A day after BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi met actor Rajinikanth in Chennai, Jana Sena Party founder and actor Pawan Kalyan has stepped in to be the star campaigner for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Mr. Kalyan will canvass for the BJP in Kolar and Raichur constituencies on Tuesday on the last day for campaign in Karnataka. On Monday morning, BJP Telangana unit president G. Kishan Reddy met the actor, with a message from Mr. Modi seeking the latter’s support for the BJP. A few weeks ago, Mr. Kalyan had met Mr. Modi in Ahmedabad, on being invited by the latter.
The actor said he was requested by Mr. Modi’s office to help with the party’s campaign. “I told them that I would help them insofar as my dates would allow. However, I will go to people under the banner of the JSP and ask them to support the BJP,” he said. Mr. Kalyan has some associates in Karnataka on the JSP banner. He also has fans there. “I have their logistic support too,” he said.
Asked about his campaign schedule in Telangana and Seemandhra, the JSP chief said he would announce the Telangana schedule in two or three days. He reiterated that he would not field any candidate in this election on the JSP banner. His endeavour would be to motivate people to go the polling booth and vote for the BJP.
