‘Fight unitedly for special status’

May 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - ONGOLE:

Upset with the Centre which ruled out special category status to Andhra Pradesh after arbitrarily bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, State SC/ST Commission chairman Karem Sivaji has called for a united struggle to achieve it.

“Special category is imperative for cash-strapped Navya Andhra to overcome the bifurcation blues and forge ahead in development,” he told the media here late on Tuesday. Industrial growth would be hampered without the status,” he said.

He felt that liberal funds from the Centre to the beleaguered State could not be a substitute for the special category which was imperative to attract captains of industry in a big way to the State.
