A female infant was allegedly abducted by an unknown woman from the post-colonial ward of the Government General Hospital (GGH) here on Thursday.

According to the police, Ganta Lakshmi, 22, a resident of Hukumpeta village in Thondangi mandal was admitted to the GGH for delivery. On Thursday morning, the doctors conducted caesarean and shifted the mother and the infant to the post-gynaec ward. Around 6.15 p.m., an unknown woman covering her face with a veil entered the ward and allegedly abducted the infant from the bedside cradle.

Even as the neo-natal mother alerted the attendants and the hospital staff, the woman managed to leave the GGH premises.

The woman’s relatives brought the issue to the notice of the GGH officials and to the police as well. Additional SP A.R. Damodar rushed to the hospital and commenced investigation with the help of the footage of the closed circuit cameras installed all over the GGH.
