Fee reimbursement to be clarified in a day or two

July 15, 2014 10:41 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 11:16 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The government of Telangana is likely to give clarity on the issue of fee reimbursement in a couple of days. The government is expected to come up with a policy decision by issuing a GO and guidelines in the form of a circular.

Sources in the government stated that the issue will figure prominently in the Cabinet meeting scheduled on Wednesday. The Cabinet is likely to take a decision on the issue, but may not make an announcement to facilitate any last minute changes in the policy and guidelines to be made public possibly on July 17 or 18. Parents of students who have cleared EAMCET and managements of private engineering and other professional courses’ colleges are constantly building pressure on the government to take an early decision.

“Officials are unable to estimate the number of Telangana native students in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. Lack of clarity on the quantum of benefit the students with Seemandhra nativity have availed is making the issue complex,” highly placed sources in the government stated. Admitting that in spite of guidelines to ensure that the scheme is reached only to students of Telangana nativity, sources said there was every possibility of ineligible candidates sneaking into the lists of beneficiaries. The Cabinet could also discuss the fee-reimbursement dues to the tune of Rs. 1,250 crore pertaining to 2012-13 and 2013-14.

The government is learnt to be not worried much on the migration of students to neighbouring States as only a small section of them can afford the expenditure could go away.
