YSR Congress honorary president Y.S.Vijayamma launched a two-day fast demanding total fee reimbursement for all eligible students belonging to the weaker sections.
Participating in her second such fast for fee reimbursement in less than a month, Ms. Vijayamma, addressing a large number of students at Indira Park here on Thursday, said late Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy had implemented the scheme for eligible professional students as he thought higher education was the right of all poor and downtrodden.
Decrying the conditions imposed by the government on fee reimbursement, she said these were causing distress to the needy students. She faulted the government for considering the scheme as a burden on the State exchequer.
She demanded that the government implement the scheme in its original form as implemented by late YSR.
Ms. Vijayamma said the revenue garnered by the government through taxes is meant for welfare programmes only and it could not create hurdles for the poor seeking to pursue higher education.
She began her fast by garlanding the bust size statue of late YSR on the dais. There was steady flow of students to the venue of the fast. A large number of party workers also thronged the ‘Fee Deeksha’ venue.
