Ravulapalem centre, one of the popular and busiest junctions on National Highway-16, was witness to a massive congregation of farmers from 16 mandals of Konaseema and also from Rajahmundry rural mandal on Tuesday for “Samaikya Rythu Garjana.”
The speakers, including farmers’ leaders, political party representatives and trade unionists said that the agitation for Samaikyandhra was not yet over and the propaganda indulged in by some people that the agitation was slowly subsiding was not true. They said that they had taken a small break because of cyclone and other related developments and no one could break their spirit.
Thousands of farmers who blocked the NH-16 from Tuesday morning patiently heard the addresses of the leaders throughout the meeting. JAC conveners L. Vijaya Reddy, PVS Suryakumar along with former MLA Chirla Jaggi Reddy, TDP Kothapeta constituency incharge Reddy Subrahmanyam, Akula Ramakrishna and Agriculture Market Committee chairman K. Jayakumar and others addressed the gathering. Mr. Vijaya Reddy and Mr. Suryakumar said that the future of the youth will be in jeopardy if the State is divided and all the sections of the society have to show stiff resistance against the division. They said that no one could stop their agitation until their demand for keeping the State united was achieved.
They said that the business community, workers, students, and NGOs were still committed to fight against bifurcation of the State and these sections would not care for those who rejoined their duties.
Human chain
Mr. Jaggi Reddy and Mr. Subrahmanyam asked the MLAs, MPs and Ministers to put their resignations on paper and withdraw their security personnel and take active part in the agitation against bifurcation, which will continue till the Union Government reverses its stand.
They said that it is easy to make changes to the ‘T-note’ and also to take back the decision as many ordinances were returned by the President of India and both houses of Parliament. Before the meeting, the farmers and workers took out a rally from different mandals of Konaseema and formed a human chain on NH-16.
