Paddy farmers have staged a protest at Choutuppal and Miryalagyuda agriculture markets demanding the district administration to provide MSP to the wet paddy.

The farmers took to the streets following thousands of quintal of paddy brought by them to IKP centres, other government procurement centres and agriculture markets was inundated in rain water as district witnessed incessant rains since Thursday evening.

At Choutuppal, a group of farmers staged a rasta-roko on National Highway 65 obstructing the traffic flow. They were also joined by the BJP Munugode Assembly Contestant Gangidi Manohar Reddy, but they were removed forcibly by the police.

A farmer, K. Ramulu, from Choutuppal, has said that the paddy was inundated in rain water due to failure of government in providing infrastructure at purchasing centre and it’s their responsibility to purchase the damaged paddy at MSP.

“We have already suffered losses during the Kharif season due to incessant rains in October last, he said. Appealing to the government to support them by providing MSP Rs. 1,345 quintal to even wet paddy, he urged the government to announce the compensation package to farmers those who have suffered losses.
