The Food & Agriculture Organisation of the UNO has agreed to train agriculture extension officials and farmers in the State for improvement of the production and productivity in case of specific pulses crops, cotton, groundnut etc.
This was announced by Agriculture Mnister Kanna Laksmiranayaan in the presence of Peter Kenmore, Deputy Director, Plant Production and Production, FAO, and organisation's representative in India, and Agriculture Commissioner V. Usha Rani, after a day-long workshop on the issue here on Monday. Mr. Lakshminarayana said the Planning Commission would be requested to provide funds to take up training and implement the production-improvement programme as a pilot scheme in one district at least from this kharif.
The meeting was attended by officials and farmers from Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Chittoor, Khammam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts.
