Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has asked the Central team touring the State to assess drought conditions to expedite the assistance of Rs.1,090.78 crore which was sought by the government to meet drought relief works and drinking water supply.

The inter-Ministerial team led by Sanjeev Gupta, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, called on Mr. Reddy on Monday and discussed at length the drought conditions in Anantapur and Mahabubnagar where it toured, said a press release of CMO.

Meanwhile, a TDP delegation comprising MLAs -- G. Muddukrishnama Naidu, P. Ramulu, Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy and D. Balavardhan Rao -- called on the team and complained about its tour of the State much after the drought conditions prevailed.

They also said that the report of the government that only 234 mandals were affected was wrong as 650 mandals were actually hit. The party demanded an assistance of Rs. 3,000 cr.

Separately, CPI leaders K. Ramakrishna and V. Ram Narasimha Rao demanded that the loss of paddy crop should be compensated at the rate of Rs.10,000 an acre as damage was as big as Rs.2,000 cr.
