The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded that the TDP government convene an all-party meeting to evolve a consensus on the location of the capital of the new State and working out modalities relating to various other aspects that cropped up post bifurcation.

APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy said the meeting of all political parties was all the more necessary in the light of the high power committee headed by K.C. Sivaramakrishnan recommending diversified development rather than focusing one particular ‘super city’. Though the State government had the powers to take a decision on the capital, it should not take unilateral decisions. The Sivaramakrishnan Committee recommendations should be kept in public domain and discussions should be held on different aspects, Mr. Reddy told The Hindu here on Monday.

The Hyderabad-centric development model followed so far resulted in agitations from a cross section of society and the present government should take all measures to avoid another regional agitation. The meeting should discuss not just about location of the new capital, but all other aspects incorporated in the AP Reorganisation Act should be discussed and plans should be evolved accordingly, he said.

“The government with an open mind should organise an all-party meeting and strive for the best acceptable decision for all sections. The Congress will extend its full cooperation in this front,” said Mr. Reddy stressing the need for eliciting views from all stakeholders before arriving at a final decision on the issue.
