Guru Purnima, the birthday of epic Mahabharata author Vedavyasa, was celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervour across Prakasam district on Tuesday.

With prayers on their lips, devotees, including a large number of women, visited temples to seek the blessings of spiritual gurus with reverence in keeping with the tradition to honour sage Vyasa, the compiler of the four Vedas.

Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao joined the large number of devotees in offering worship at the famous Sai Baba temple at Lawyerpet here.

Devotees stood in serpentine queues in front of the temples of Sai Baba at Santhapet, Pelluru, Aluru and N.G.Padu on the full moon day of the holy month of Ashadham for Pada Darshan of the spiritual guru on the occasion.

A heavy rush of devotees was also witnessed at the Pelluru Sai Baba temple which has a life-size idol of Sai Baba chiselled from marble procured from Italy by Rajiv Harish Talim, the grandson of Balaji Wasanth Talim who had carved the idol in Shirdi.
