Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday reviewed the status of the departments of the Backward Classes welfare, tribal welfare, minorities’ welfare and social welfare at the Secretariat.
Of the budget of ₹5,013.5 crore, the BC Welfare Department spent ₹1,827.9 crore. It spent ₹892 crore of the ₹1,749 crore for scholarships and tuition fees.
The Chief Minister suggested that the results must be monitored and steps taken to ensure that eligible candidates received the benefits of the programme NTR Unnatha Vidyadarana.
“More than expenditure, results are important,” he said, and instructed officials to track the progress of the students and the trainees. Of the target of 1,750 people, 1,534 people had been selected and trained.
Minister for BC Welfare K. Atchannaidu and Minister for Social Welfare and Empowerment Nakka Ananda Babu were present during the meeting as well as M. Girija Shankar, Secretary to Chief Minister.
A report was presented by BC Welfare Secretary B. Udaya Lakshmi with the details of the action taken regarding the Chief Minister’s instructions in the previous meeting. Orders had been issued for providing economic assistance to 134 communities and 11 federations.
Ms. Udaya Lakshmi interacted with the family members registered with the Videshi Vidyadarana programme and received positive feedback.
Efforts were also being taken to ensure that government officers visit the BC Study Circles to strengthen and improve the quality of education.
Officials also reported that six BC Bhavans had been sanctioned at the cost of ₹5 crore each and entrusted with the Andhra Pradesh Education and Welfare Infrastructure Development Corporation (APEWIDC).
The implementation plan of the Chandranna Pelli Kanuka scheme for BC girls would begin and ₹30,000 would be provided to every girl during her marriage.
The bride/groom should call the toll free number, register. After verification, the incentive would be disbursed in phases. The entire process would be carried out through an app called CPK (Chandranna Pelli Kanuka) which would be launched in January 2018.
Biometric attendance and e-office facility had been introduced in all offices at the HoD and district levels successfully.
The performance analysis of Janmabhoomi, bank-linked schemes, skill development programmes, educational schemes, hostels and implementation of legislative Acts for the SCs and STs were discussed
The Chief Minister said the department must work hard to ensure that the right people got the full benefit of the schemes and poverty was slowly eradicated.
“Everyone should be aware of the government initiatives and support.” He said people must also be motivated, giving the example of badminton player Kidambi Srikanth. “The common man has extraordinary skill and talent and the government is keen on supporting this spirit of excellence.”
Tribal Welfare
The Tribal Welfare Department presented the report on drinking water facilities. Twelve of the 1,057 works sanctioned had been completed. The remaining would be completed by the end of December.
Mr. Naidu instructed officials to work on better infrastructure for tribal communities. He said awareness, education and an inclusive nature of government schemes would benefit the people.
