‘Ensure 5-hour power supply to farm sector’

TDP MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao on Wednesday appealed to the authorities of the Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (EPDCL) to save the standing crops in the upland region by providing uninterrupted power supply, enabling farmers to irrigate their crops.

Speaking to EPDCL Chief Managing Director M.V. Seshagiri Babu over phone, the MP sought that the discom ensured at least five-hour uninterrupted power supply a day for the farm connections. Flooded with complaints from farmers that crops such as sugarcane, oil palm and cocoa were on the verge of withering for want of water, owing to erratic power supply in the upland region, Mr. Babu urged the discom officials to improve the power supply scenario. Even as the farmers were supposed to receive 7-hour power supply , the discom was not able to supply power even for three hours a day in some areas .
