Engineering student’s body fished out from river Krishna

He has been reported missing since Thursday

An engineering student, G Anil Kumar (20), who was missing since a day, died under mysterious circumstances. His body was traced at the Prakasam Barrage in Krishna river on Friday.

Anil Kumar, a resident of Kalanagar, was studying third year B. Tech in MIC College of Engineering, at Kanchikacherla.

Police suspect that the student jumped into the river leaving his bike on the barrage.

On Wednesday, the student went for his friend’s birthday party and arrived after midnight. Objecting to the late night party, Anil Kumar’s reportdly parents chided over the issue and the victim who was allegedly upset, left home on Thursday morning. His family members searched in vain till evening, and lodged a complaint with the Krishnalanka police.

“Today his bike was found near the 35th gate on the barrage. Police searched in the vicinity, and found the body in the river on Friday morning,” said South Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Srinivas.

“We are trying to find out whether there are any other reasons behind the death. Police altered the missing case to Section 174 CrPc (Suspicious death) and took up investigation”, the ACP said.

Anil’s phone was switched off. Police are trying to collect more information from his classmates and friends. However, the boy’s parents did not express any doubt on the suspicious death, Mr. Srinivas said.
