Engineering admissions this year are likely to be delayed due to the imbroglio over the fee reimbursement issue and the management quota guidelines.
The EAMCET Admission Committee meeting held on Friday could not take a decision on the issuance of notification with no clarity on both the issues. Official sources said that the A.P government has promised to issue GOs related to management quota admissions while the Telangana government did not commit the same.
The managements are seeking 15 per cent NRI quota with an option of admitting NRI sponsored candidates. Official sources said the A.P government was ready to give 15 per cent NRI quota but the same was not committed by Telangana government apparently as it was not in favour of NRI sponsored candidates.
College managements plan to admit students under the NRI sponsored candidate quota with fee of US $5,000 even if they are Indian citizens. The Telangana government is also in a fix on the fee reimbursement to be paid to candidates hailing from the A.P. The government is yet to decide on the nativity guidelines for extending the fee benefit.
“Given the circumstances, counselling may start in the last week of July or first week of August,” an official said. The meeting decided to empower the Principal Secretaries of Education, Technical Education Commissioners of both the States and the APSCHE Chairman to take the final decision on the dates.
Meanwhile, officials have also decided to approach the Supreme Court seeking extension of admission schedule to August. As per the apex court directions, admissions have to be completed by July end and classes have to begin on August 1.
After the notification, it takes at least 25 days for the first phase of admissions to be completed including the seven days certificate verification period. So even if notification is out in the second or third week after clearing the existing obstacles counselling process will move into August.
