The Energy Department will soon launch several pilot projects for replacement of the conventional lighting with energy efficient lighting systems.
A pilot project for installing demand side management based efficient lighting programme (DELP) will be launched in Srikakulam, West Godavari, Guntur and Anantapur districts shortly. The initiative was taken after Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a public sector energy services company, evinced interest in investing over Rs. 1,000 crore for promoting energy efficiency and energy conservation measures.
Sample surveyChief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who reviewed the power supply situation with senior officials recently has given a go-ahead for taking up a sample survey in these districts related to replacement of conventional lighting systems. Close to 25 lakh households in these four districts would be covered under the programme, once the pilot project is launched.
In addition, the Chief Minister has given approval, in principle, for launch of a pilot project for replacement of inefficient agricultural pump-sets with ISI-branded ones in Rajanagaram mandal of East Godavari district, where segregation of feeders has been completed. Accordingly, the utilities are gearing up to submit a detailed project report relating to replacement of 36,000 pump-sets in 13 mandals.
According to a press release issued by the State Energy Conservation Mission, Energy secretary Ajay Jain has sent letters to the distribution companies, asking them to conduct sample survey in the four districts. The process would be extended to other districts in phases even as the Municipal Administration Department is reportedly considering replacement of street-lighting systems with energy efficient lighting.
To begin with, the Discoms would submit proposals to the Energy Regulatory Commission about the revenue sharing agreement proposed to be entered into with the EESL. The utilities would approach the State government seeking nod for replacement of conventional lighting in all districts in the State once the regulator approved the proposal.
Meeting on Aug. 8Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, who is also the Chairman of the SECM, has decided to conduct a meeting with the officials concerned on August 8 to fine-tune the modalities involved in the exercise, the press release added.
