Encroachments near the Tirupati railway station and at the TTD’s pilgrim amenities complexes – Srinivasam, Madhavam and Vishnu Nivasam – were razed by the municipal officials here on Wednesday.

For the past several months the encroachments on the footpaths have created a multitude of issues and resulted in regular traffic snarls.

In order to address this problem, the municipal officials in coordination with the police cleared the platforms and removed the structures.

The authorities have also identified such issues on Kapilatheertam road, Alipiri road, Karnala street, Tilak road, Bazaar street, SVIMS and Ruia Hospital roads, Jayashyam Theatre road etc., and cleared the pavements.

Property owners cautioned

MCT in-charge Commissioner K. Madhavi Latha said that they had received numerous complaints from citizens as well as pilgrims over the hawkers occupying the footpaths, leading to the action. She also warned of legal action and fines on those who extend their properties beyond their boundary, resulting in encroachment of government land.

Assistant City Planners B. Gunasekhar and Subba Rao, Town Planning officials Gurnadham, Subhapradha, Munilakshmi and staff and police officials took part in the drive.
