National Commission for Scheduled Tribes Vice Chairman Ravi Thakur on Saturday said their primary concern was assuring relief measures to families of those killed in the Seshachalam encounter and they would send recommendations to Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh governments.

Interacting with media persons, Mr. Thakur urged the Tamil Nadu government to provide each family of victims with four hectares of land and a government job for a family member and said some of the deceased were Girijans.

“Recommendations for relief measures, with regard to Andhra Pradesh government will be made at a later stage,” he added.

Earlier in the morning, Mr. Thakur along with Collector Siddarth Jain, received several representations related to Girijan issues and directed the concerned officials to addresses the problems as soon as possible. He also held a meeting with Tirupati Urban Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jatti, Divisional Forest Officer (Tirupati Wildlife) G. Srinivasulu, Task Force Representative B.N. Murthy, RDO (Tirupati) Veerabrahmaiah and other officials in connection with several aspects related to the Seshachalam encounter. Details of the meeting were not divulged.

Mr. Thakur, accompanied by police and forest department officials, visited the spot of encounter in Seshachalam hills on Friday. Based on his observations, Mr. Thakur will be sending a report to the ST Commission within 10 days, and the same (report) could be forwarded to the National Human Rights Commission if deemed necessary.
