An anonymous email has threatened to blast the State Assembly, JNTUH building apart from physically eliminating the Technical Education Minister, Mopidevi Venkataramana and JNTUH Vice Chancellor, D.N. Reddy if students detained for want of attendance were not given relief immediately.
The mail was sent to the JNTUH VC on his official email ID yesterday from a fictitious mail created using the JNTUH website. The sender argued in favour of the detainees stating that shortage of attendance was due to floods, swine flu, dengue and other diseases that hit the State in the last two months and University should immediately promote them. University officials feel that some disgruntled elements who were not allowed to take the examinations for shortage of attendance might have sent the mail.
The JNTUH Vice Chancellor, D.N.Reddy said the matter was brought to the notice of the Intelligence IG, M. Mahender Reddy who in turn asked them to lodge a complaint with the Cyber Crime cell.
Prof. Reddy said 2,800 candidates were detained this year which was just 1.8 per cent of the students. There is no increase in percentage of candidates detained as alleged in the mail and it is the same case every year. He made it clear that UGC rules have to be followed strictly on the attendance issue and Universities go by the attendance figures given by the colleges.
