Two elephants on Friday destroyed a hut and trampled maize and banana plantation at Sikhaparuvu in Salur mandal, causing anxiety among the tribal people in the agency. Two elephants were spotted near Moolavalasa in Makkuva mandal on Saturday, said Vizianagaram DFO I.K.V. Raju, adding that the animals strayed into Salur division from Narayanaputti in Koraput division of Odisha. Being informed, forest officials, with the assistance of the locals, scared the animals away from entering the human habitation. “The pachyderms are likely to cross the State border by Saturday night,” Mr. Raju said.
