The Election Commission on Friday censured Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP Vijayashanti for allegedly making inflammatory comments in violation of the model code of conduct imposed ahead of the bye-election in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.

“Election Commission has taken a serious note of the violation of model code of conduct by her. As a responsible political leader, she should not have made such comments,” Chief Electoral Officer I.V. Subba Rao told reporters here.

Though Ms. Vijayashanti denied having made inflammatory comments, the Election Commission after perusing relevant video footage found that the comments made by her amounted to violation of poll code.

The CEO said the Election Commission also censured Congress MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy for making similar inflammatory remarks in his native Medak district.

He said police cases booked against both Ms. Vijayashanti and Mr. Jayaprakash Reddy for their comments would take the natural course.

Both Ms. Vijayashanti as well as Mr. Jayaprakash Reddy were arrested by police and released on bail over the matter.
