Eight killed in road accidents

Eight persons were killed and 14 others injured in separate road accidents in Kadapa, Kurnool, and Prakasam districts on Thursday. Three persons died and five others sustained injuries when a fly-ash tanker rammed a stationary tractor near Thondur in Kadapa district in the early hours. Tractor driver Gurubhaskar Reddy (29) died on the spot, while Siddhamma (45) and Hanmanthu (40) succumbed to injuries on way to hospital.

A tractor carrying pilgrims to Sri Kullayappa Swamy temple near Pendlimarry mandal stopped at Thondur on exhaustion of fuel when the fly-ash tanker rammed it from behind, according to the police.

Vadde Srinivasulu (32), who was eking out a living by loading and unloading flooring stone slabs, was killed when a tractor overturned near Pydipalem in Midthur mandal of Kurnool district. Srinivasulu, who studied M.Sc. B.Ed was seated on a load of slabs when the vehicle overturned.

The tractor driver fled the scene. Midthur SI Chandrasekhar Reddy registered a case. The body was shifted to hospital for post-mortem examination.

A mini-bus carrying pilgrims from Belgaum in Karnataka to Srisailam rammed a stationary sand-laden tractor at Pamulapadu in Kurnool district resulting in the death of Rajesh Kale (42)and his daughter Vaishnavi (12) on Wednesday night. In another accident near Cumbum in Prakasam district, a 19-year-old youth and his sister were killed when a lorry hit their motorcycle.

The youth, P. Kishore from Bhupatipalli near Markapur, was taking his sister Prashanthi (17) for junior intermediate supplementary examinations at C.L.R. College in Cumbum when the accident occurred, according to Cumbum SI K. Madhav Rao.
