‘Efforts on to prevent use of plastic during Pushkarams’

The East Godavari district administration has initiated measures to prevent use of plastic and open defecation during the Godavari Pushkarams to ensure a pollution-free environ during the mega event.

At a review meeting on Thursday at the R&B Guesthouse, Collector H. Arun Kumar said that the Municipal Corporation of Rajahmundry (MCR) had already taken up a drive to put an end to the usage of plastic . Pointing out that open defecation along bathing ghats, in and around community toilets was a major problem , he suggested that the people living near the ghats should have Individual Sanitary Latrines (ISL) or use community toilets without fail to keep the environment clean.

The Collector also said that accommodation to 10,000 sanitary workers and staff and other 15,000 police personnel should be arranged and asked the Pushkaram Special Officer and MCR Commissioner J. Murali to delegate the task to the Accommodation Sub-Committee which is part of 11 Sub-Committees formed for the Pushkarams.

He said services of River Ambulances to ensure medical aid to pilgrims would be used during Pushkarams All the Pushkaram works would be monitored by the teams constituted by the JNTU Kakinada, to test the quality of works.
