The annual Flamingo Festival began on a colourful note at Sullurpeta and in the surroundings of Pulicat lake here in Nellore district on Friday amid reassurances from the government on developing the area as a popular eco-tourism destination in the State. “All the locally popular tourist attractions will be connected for attracting visitors in a big way. Greater fillip will be given to the development of tourism to Pulicat, Nelapattu and surrounding areas,” said Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana.
A number of facilities from food stalls to mandapams were organised at all the venues located at BV Palem, Sullurupeta, Atakanithippa and Nelapattu bird sanctuary. At the BV Palem venue, special facilities were created for creating wider interest in the boating rides among the visitors and tourists. About 15 boats were made available at the spot where the approach ways were cleared of bushes for the convenience of the tourists. Pleasant boat rides were being offered in the Pulicat lake on the festive occasion. The authorities have instructed the boatmen not to allow more than 25 passengers in each boat as part of the precautionary measures. A constable would travel in every boat to ensure the safety of visitors. The famous Irakam island, which has been a must see for many tourists, both domestic and foreign, remains a must-see for the visitors during the festival season. It is a long boat ride from the BV Palem point in the lake. Ministers Palle Raghunatha ReddyPeethala Sujathaand other officials tokk part in the inaugural function.
