After days of uncertainty, EAMCET counselling began at the originally planned Maharaja Government Polytechnic College centre at Poolbaugh here on Wednesday.

Following polytechnic college lecturers’ strike and non-cooperation of employees, the counselling that was to begin at the college on August 19 deferred and the State Technical Education Board shifted the venue to JNTU (K) College of Engineering on August 21 where too the impediment continued.

Now, with the polytechnic lecturers’ calling off their stir, the certificate verification at the polytechnic college began, said Lakshmi, Principal of the college.

On the first day, 85 candidates out of zero to 1.80-lakh-rankers attended the counselling. The process would continue for all the candidates on Thursday and Friday.

Samaikyandhra stir

As part of the agitation in support of Samaikyandhra, TDP celebrated ‘Krishnashtami’ at fort junction. A number of people vied with one another to break ‘Vutti”. The Congress launched signature campaign at RTC complex. Farmers of Puritipenta village in Gajapathinagaram mandal took out a 5-km-long rally with bullock carts on NH-43 from the village to Bondapalli, the mandal headquarters village. The protesters blocked traffic at RTC Complex, Bobbili, by letting loose sheep on the road.

The indefinite fast by TDP State mahila president Sobha Hymavati entered the third day at S. Kota on Wednesday and her condition was stated to be stable. Police used force to shift three out of five JAC leaders who were on indefinite fast at the same place.

APEPDCL employees took out a silent rally from Vidyut Bhavan to three lamps junction.

Elsewhere, rallies and roadblocks by agitators continued on the 25th day of the protests against the State bifurcation.
