Dravidian University has submitted a copy of its vision document and action plan to the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at Hyderabad recently.

With a two-pronged strategy to improve academic and research excellence, the varsity plans to open specialized centres to achieve the objectives behind its inception. It was under the direction of the Minister for Higher Education Ganta Srinivasa Rao that the varsity took up the mammoth task of preparing an elaborate action plan, over a decade after its formation.

For the first time, we roped in experts and intellectuals from various facets of higher education, who took part in the brainstorming session for the betterment of our university, says the Vice-Chancellor K. Ratnaiah.

The plan includes opening of exclusive centres for cultural, literary, translation and language studies. It may be noted here that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has already sanctioned a Centre for Preservation of Endangered Languages to the varsity, with an outlay of Rs.1.5 crore.

“The document has novel ideas including establishment of a Centre for Development of Multi-lingual (Dravidian) Dictionary, Centre for Classical Telugu Studies, Computer-aided Dravidian Studies Centre, Centre for Dalit and Bahujan Studies, Language Plan and Modernization Centre, NTR Centre for Studies on South Indian Films etc.”, the Registrar Ch. A. Rajendra Prasad told The Hindu.

The document, copies of which were submitted to Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Principal Secretary (Higher Education) Nilam Sawhney, is expected to act as a guiding light for the varsity to enlarge its footprint in the arena of Dravidian literature.
