Senior Maoist leader Sudarshan alias Sriramulu Srinivas, member of Andhra Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC), was produced before the media by the SP, A.V. Ranganath, here on Sunday evening. Sudarshan was apprehended by the police near Wyra on Saturday night.
A sequence of dramatic events preceded his arrest as the rebel leader narrowly escaped the police dragnet after being intercepted by them while travelling in a Bolero at Wyra late on Friday night.
Sudarshan underwent treatment in private hospital for the bullet injury in his left leg.
A feeble Sudarshan was brought to the district police headquarters from the hospital on Sunday evening. Talking to mediamen at the police headquarters here, the SP said Sudarshan was apprehended in a swift and well-coordinated operation after he managed to escape during vehicle checking in Wyra.
However, his wife, Vimalakka, commander of Kalimela area committee, escaped.
He is involved in more than 20 major offences both in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
