Machilipatnam MP K. Narayana on Friday said that doubling and electrification of Vijayawada-Machilipatnam railway line would be completed by the end of 2019.

The doubling of the railway line between Gudivada and Machilipatnam was in full swing as part of the works, added Mr. Narayana. Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Narayana has confirmed that a feasibility study to lay railway line between Machilipatnam and Repalle in Guntur district was on. “A feasibility study is in full swing to examine possibilities to lay the 33 kilometres of the Machilipatnam-Repalle railway line,” said Mr. Narayana. At least ₹2 crore would be spent on beautification and development of the Machilipatnam railway station, facilitating halting and water servicing of the 18-bogie trains here in future. Mr. Narayana on Friday flagged off Machilipatnam-Ajmer special train here.
