The brutal murder of Chinna Maddamma, 35, and her daughter Lakshmi, 10, a week ago has come to light.

On being alerted by cattle-rearers of a foul smell from a dilapidated room near a defunct well, police detected the girl’s body covered in a heap of stones on the outskirts of Yerrakatwa village in Kallur mandal of Kurnool district.

The woman was murdered near Brahmagundam and the girl near Yerrakatwa, on the same day about a week ago, Kurnool Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna said on Tuesday.

The SP inspected the girl’s body in Yerrakatwa and enquired with the villagers.

Assuring them of confidentiality, he urged the villagers having knowledge about the accused to give information to the police. Forensic professor Sankar Naik and Tehsildar Narendranath Reddy performed the ‘panchanama’.
