Allaying fears: Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee-Amaravati State Chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu addressing the media in Ongole on Tuesday.

Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee-Amaravati State Chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu on Tuesday said the government had given a clear-cut assurance not to retire any employee who had crossed 50 years of age based on performance.

He told a media conference here after meeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and officials concerned at Amaravati late last night that the State government had clarified that it had no plans to ape the Centre which had forced some government officers to retire for being non-performers.

“The employees need not have any fears over the implementation of the Centre’s policy in the State also,” he said, adding the employees could happily work till they attain the age of 60 years.

He thanked the State government for sanctioning gratuity to employees who had opted for contributory pension scheme since 2004. The widow of a deceased employee had also been assured of a minimum family pension of ₹6,500 per month by the government, he added.
