The BJP is set to hoodwink people of Andhra Pradesh by making announcements granting Kadapa steel factory and Vizag rail zone, said Pratyeka Hoda Vibhajana Hameela Sadhana Samithi convener Chalasani Srinivas. He appealed to people to understand ‘the evil designs’ of the Modi government.

Speaking at a roundtable for setting up of a steel plant at Kadapa organised by the CPI and the CPI (M) here on Thursday, Mr. Srinivas said: “BJP leaders maintain that the Centre has fulfilled 85 % bifurcation promises, but the ground reality is different.”

CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna said both TDP and BJP were responsible for the present state of affairs.

“The TDP has no moral right to stage an agitation at Kadapa as it did not support Left parities when they organised protests demanding setting up of steel plant. Now, Kadapa TDP leaders are singing a different tune out of compulsion,” he said.

Mr. Ramakrishna said agriculture in Rayalaseema region was badly affected owing to poor supply of irrigation water and erratic monsoon.

“The steel plant will provide jobs to lakhs of unemployed youth,” he pointed out.

The Centre’s contention that the plant was not viable in Kadapa was not correct as the region was blessed with iron ore reserves, he said.

‘Copy cat protest’

CPI(M) leader Y. Venkateswara Rao said that on the Left parties would stage a massive protest at Kadapa and in all the other districts in the State on June 29 to highlight the demand.

“The TDP was forced to take up the fast-unto-death programme only after the Left announced its plan of action,” he pointed out.

CPI(M) leader Ch. Babu Rao, CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar, YSRCP leader Velampalli Srinivas, Jana Sena leader M Gangadhar, Aam Aadmi Party’s P. Rama Rao and leaders of various students, farmers and people’s organisations took part in the roundtable
