Telugu Desam Party MP from Anantapur J.C. Diwakar Reddy said on Thursday that he was resigning from Parliament within the next few days, having failed to fulfil the wishes of his electorate.

Speaking to mediapersons here, he said he would submit his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker on September 25 or 26, even as he said that he was only quitting his “post” and not from politics.

He said he “failed” to deliver on his promise to bring water — drinking water to all and irrigation water to the ayacut in Tadipatri Assembly constituency — and widen roads in Anantapur town. “After 40 years in politics, it is unnecessary to continue for people like me, especially when no value is attached to our opinions and wishes,” Mr. Reddy said, adding repeated promises to resolve issues had fallen flat.

Asked if his decision to resign could be altered if his demands were met, Mr. Reddy replied back saying he wasn’t hopeful of such a resolution of issues soon. “Even now my resignation is more due to non resolution of issues more than wanting to resign for the sake of resigning,” said Mr. Reddy.

On the other hand, he said powers-that-be, which were against development of Anantapur town, were working against the wishes of the people such as widening of roads and betterment of the drainage system, apparently referring to Anantapur TDP Legislator Vaikuntam Prabhakar Chowdary.

Mr Reddy and Mr Chowdary were involved in a war of words, even inside the Anantapur municipal council meeting, over widening of roads in the old town area of the Anantapur town.
