Edara Haribabu, whose disqualification as ZPTC member from Ponaluru in Prakasam district has been stayed by Andhra Pradesh High court, staged a demonstration in front of the Zilla Parishad office here on Thursday, protesting against locking of the Chairman's office by the officials concerned.

Mr. Haribabu, a TDP rebel who was elected Zilla Parishad Chairman as an independent candidate with the support of the YSR Congress ZPTCs, started functioning from the Chairman's chamber from November 8 following the High Court’s order. Mr. Haribabu was earlier stripped of the Chairman’s post following his disqualification by the District Collector and election presiding officer G.S.R.K.R. Vijaykumar as the ZPTC member from Ponaluru for violation of the whip issued by the TDP.

Following this, ZP Vice-chairman N. Balaji of the YSRC started discharging duties as the in-charge ZP Chairman.

While Principal District Judge Sk.Md. Ismail upheld his disqualification by the District Collector, the High court stayed his disqualification and posted the case to a division bench for hearing. Upset with the Zilla Parishad officials keeping the Chairman's office locked and pending adjudication of the case by the division bench of the High Court, Mr. Haribabu staged a protest, maintaining that his chairmanship had automatically been restored following the stay of his disqualification by the High Court.
