The name of V. Dinesh Reddy, In-charge Head of the Police Force (HoPF), figures third in a list of a panel of eight top Indian Police Service officers forwarded by the State government to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Monday. The UPSC will suggest to the State government the name of one of the officers, to be appointed as HoPF in the State. The names of the eight IPS officers have been recommended in the following order: P. Gautam Kumar, Umesh Kumar, V. Dinesh Reddy, Ashok Kumar, T.P. Das, Aruna Bahuguna, B. Prasada Rao and A.K. Huda.

Mr. Gautam Kumar has applied for voluntary retirement and his request is pending before the Centre. Mr. Umesh Kumar was placed under suspension for being absent without applying for leave, but the A.P. High Court asked the State government to revoke it.

Meanwhile, the government issued orders stating that Mr. Dinesh Reddy would continue as the In-charge HoPF. This was in tune with the orders of the A.P. High Court setting aside his appointment and permitting the government to continue with him as In-charge HoPF till the selection process was completed.
