The simmering differences between the Communist Party of India and CPI (Marxist) over their respective stand on the just concluded elections came to the fore once again.
CPI State secretary K. Narayana alleged that the CPI (M) leadership adopted an opportunistic stand in the elections and worked for the defeat of the CPI candidates. The CPI (M)’s stand was immoral and the party’s policies were reflective of its bankruptcy.
Dr. Narayana charged CPI (M) Telangana secretary T. Veerabhadram with striking a deal for Rs. 15 crore with the YSR Congress to ensure his defeat from the Khammam Lok Sabha seat. This was not new to Mr. Veerabhadram as he had earlier colluded with the then Congress candidate Younis Sultan and ensured defeat of veteran leader Puvvada Nageswara Rao in 1999, he alleged.
He went on to allege that the CPI (M)’s true intentions of working for the defeat of the CPI candidates became evident with the Marxist party’s decision to enter into an indirect understanding with the YSR Congress and Jai Samaikyandhra Party in Seemandhra and Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana. “The CPI (M) fielded its candidates from Munugode and Devarakonda constituencies in spite of being aware that the CPI candidates were in the fray,” he said, advising the Marxist party’s leadership to make introspection on its decision to support the YSR Congress in Seemandhra and TRS in Telangana.
CPI (M) Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu, however, dismissed the CPI senior leader’s claims. He dared Dr. Narayana to furnish proofs, if any, regarding the CPI (M)’s understanding with the YSRC. He justified his party’s stand of going it alone in the elections as it was in line with the party’s national committee’s decision to not support any alliance in which the Congress was a member.
