Popular temples in East Godavari district were being decked up for Sarannavaratri festival beginning from Thursday night, particularly in Puruhootika Devi temple at Pithapuram, Vijayadurga Peetham, at Vedurupaka and one of the oldest temples at Devi Chowk in Rajahmundry and Sri Devi temple at Amalapuram.

At Devi Chowk in Rajahmundry, the Bala Tripura Sundari temple is being spruced up for the festival. The Devi Utsav Committee is organising Sri Devi Navaratri for the 81 consecutive year. The committee has already arranged huge cut-outs of goddess Parasakthi with 24 hands and arms and four huge arches. Every year people from the city and suburban areas throng Devi Chowk all the nine-days from early morning.

Sri Devi Utsav Committee in Amalapuram, which has been celebrating the festival for the last 52 years on Muslim Street, is continuing its tradition and this year also it is conducting the festival in a grand manner. At Vedurupaka, goddess Vijaya Durga Devi will be adorned in different avatars daily.

Soundaryalahari, a cultural organisation, is conducting special rituals both morning and evening at TTD Kalyanamandapam.

Endowments Minister P. Manikyala Rao and senior auditor V. Bhaskaram will inaugurate the Sarannavaratri festival. Vedic pandits will perform “Shodasopacharas” and offer nine varieties of ‘haratis’ to Devi every evening.

At Haribabu Mandir in Seethampeta, Sri Maha Kameswari Devi Navaratri will be celebrated by Ajjarapu Haribabu and Matru Rupini Seva Samstha Bhaktha Brindam.
