The district administration on Thursday evening had put on alert the medical and health department, following detection of a dengue case at Rangaraja Nagar locality in the corporation, after the victim's father approached the officials concerned.

The father of a 13-year-old boy had approached the office of the District Medical and Health Office a couple of days ago, with the information that his son was undergoing treatment for dengue at Christian Medical Hospital at Vellore, 30 km from here. He sought the officials to conduct medical camp at his locality, along with door-to-door survey for suspected cases of dengue and viral fevers.

As there was no response, he had approached the higher officials on Thursday, resulting in the immediate action. The boy was discharged from the Vellore hospital on Thursday evening, following improvement in platelets count.

District Surveillance Officer (Infectious Diseases) Annareddy Sudarsan and District Epidemiologist V. Nagaraju, and Medical Officer (NR Peta) Vinayak, along with paramedical staff, rushed to the localities near Estate junction, including Rangaraja Nagar, and undertook door-to-door survey.

Some patients were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, when they showed signs of viral fevers. “We have noticed that sanitation is very bad in the area, and sought the concerned officials to take immediate steps to remove water stagnation and clear garbage,” Dr Sudarsan said.
