India’s most influential social media stars, channels and the men and women behind them came together celebrating the phenomenon of social media at the country’s first Social Media Summit & Awards 2017 organised by the Andhra Pradesh government here on Sunday.

Actors Deepika Padukone and Rana Daggubati, whose presence cheered up the crowd, had been awarded the Most Popular Indian Actress on Social Media and Most Active South Indian Actor on Social Media titles respectively.

Speaking on her presence on the social media, Ms. Deepika said, “I am not very active online and yet I have fans across the country because whatever I do, I do it from my heart. I may not share everything I do on social media but I do share all important things in my life. I share most things but one need not react to everything.”

About Amaravati, Ms. Deepika said, “I want to come back here again soon. When I was landing here I was overwhelmed by the greenery around and the nice people around here. I want to do more good films and entertain people. I have got so much love from people and I have always tried to do good projects,” Ms. Deepika told the huge gathering of youth and children.

Music composer Anirudh Ravichander, who received the ‘Most Popular Indian Musician on Social Media’ for 135 million views of Kolaveri Di, regaled the crowd rendering his first Telugu number, Bytakochi Chuste, for Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming movie.

RJ Balaji was awarded the title ‘Best Usage of Social Media for a Social Cause’ for his efforts in gathering help during Chennai floods.

The awards for social media channels and influencers in various genres were given in the National and Telugu categories.

In the National category, The Viral Fever (Entertainment), Carryminati (Comedy), Nisha Madhulika (Cooking), TFVGaming Rohan Trehan (Gaming), Super Princessjo (Beauty & Fashion), Chuchu TV (Kids), Powerdrift (Auto), Sanam (Music), Study IQ Education (Education), Artkala (DIY Arts & Crafts) and Technical (Technology).

In the Telugu category, iDream Telugu Movies (Entertainment), VIVA (Comedy), Myna Street Food (Cooking), DroidGames (Gaming), She Fashion (Beauty & Fashion), Infobells Telugu (Kids), Zohair Ahmed (Auto), TV9 (News & Politics), Aditya Music (Music), 7active Studio (Education), Easy Rangoli (DIY Arts & Crafts) and Telugu TechTuts (Technology). For each genre, five channels competed. Singer Shraddha Sharma entertained the audience by crooning a few songs.

The awards were given away by AP Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and MP Kesineni Srinivas.
