YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said on Tuesday that any government that cheats its own people would witness a downfall.

Speaking to reporters during lunch break at Betamcherla mandal headquarters village in Dhone Assembly segment in Kurnool district, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was in the habit of deceiving people for political gains, and that the days of the “tyrannical government” were numbered.

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said house sites would be given to every journalist on the YSRCP coming to power.

“Special Category Status (SCS) is absolutely necessary for the development of the State. Without SCS, even if we take 60 years, we won’t be able to develop like Hyderabad. But with SCS, development can be fast-tracked,” Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy opined.

On the issue of the State government making people of Andhra Pradesh residing in Telangana ineligible for availing of benefits under the Arogyasri scheme, he said it was “inhuman.”

“What happened to the super speciality hospital promised by Mr. Naidu in Kurnool? Implementation of promises is as important as making them,” Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, and ridiculed the government over the “dismal” state of healthcare in the State.

The 14th day of the Praja Sankalpa Yatra started from Gorlagutta village, entered the Dhone constituency and reached Betamcherla, where the Opposition leader addressed a public meeting.

Arogyasri

Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Arogyasri scheme had been watered down and that his government would implement it in such a way wherein all operations would be performed free of cost. “Kidney patients will be given ₹10,000 as pension every month and all kinds of medicines would be provided through 104,” he promised.
